Praised by the press as ‘phenomenal’ (Sueddeutsche Zeitung), ‘Rhythmic Genius’ (Die ZEIT) and ‘full of elegant perfection’ (Kōbe Newspaper), performances by the up-and-coming multi-percussionist Christian Benning have attracted a great deal of attention worldwide. The 28-year-old's exuberant joy of playing and his virtuoso techniq ue have quickly propelled him to the top of his generation of young percussionists.

His captivating performances as a soloist and with his pure percussion formation (Christian Benning Percussion Group) have recently taken place in the world's most famous concert halls, including the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Glocke in Bremen, the Prinzregententheater and the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Kraftwerk in Berlin, the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, the Musikverein in Graz, the Duomi di Milano, the Sagrada Família in Barcelona, the Borusan Music House in Istanbul, the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, the George Enescu Hall in Bucharest, the Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem, the Egyptian State Opera in Cairo, the Royal Opera House of Muscat, the Culture Centre in Ōsaka, the Abbey in San Diego, the Griswold Hall in Baltimore and at the United Nations in New York City. In 2024, he made and will make his debuts in Boston/MA, Washington D.C. and at the Venice Biennale, among others.

In addition to numerous international competition successes and concert tours through Asia, Africa, Europe and North America, the versatile percussionist regularly performs with renowned ensembles and instrumentalists. Chamber music projects have brought him together with Juan de la Rubia, Hansjoerg Albrecht, Cameron Carpenter, Simone Rubino, the Arcis Saxophone Quartet or the Neeb Piano Duo, among others. Concerts with these ensembles have already taken him to the Rheingau Musikfestival, the Heidelberger Fruehling, La Folle Journée or the Teatro Romano di Verona. His highly esteemed musical expressiveness has already enriched many recording productions in collaboration with Deutschlandfunk, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Suedwest-Rundfunk and has appeared on labels such as Genuin, Prospero or Audite, where he has also recorded some of his own compositions.

Christian Benning regularly plays as percussionist and timpanist with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Wuerttemberg Chamber Orchestra, the Ludwigsburg Festival Orchestra or the State Orchestra of Port Louis. His passion for sharing his artistic expertise and promoting young talent has led him to teach at academies and masterclasses at conservatories in Germany, Italy, Spain, Israel and Mauritius.

In his constant quest for innovation, Christian Benning is currently developing CreativeBeats, a revolutionary hybrid percussion instrument. As a scholarshipholder of the German National Academic Foundation, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and as a winner of the Westfalia Music Prize as well as of the Sueddeutsche Zeitung’s and the city of Pasing’s cultural awards, he is involved in a long-term interdisciplinary collaboration with Holger Geschwindner and Dirk Nowitzki. He is researching a rhythm-based training method for professional team sport. A notation system invented and developed by Benning forms the basis of his PhD studies, which he has been completing at London's Brunel University since 2022. In 2025, he is about to take over the artistic direction of the international music festival in Bayreuth (FjKB).

Christian Benning has been enrolled at the Munich University of Music since 2009, where he is currently completing his post-gradual concert exam ‘Excellence in Perfoermance’ – after completing his pre-college, bachelor's and master's degrees with Dr Peter Sadlo, Adel Shalaby, Raymond Curfs, Arnold Riedhammer and Alexej Gerassimez. He gained further study experience in the USA with Robert van Sice at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and the Yale School of Music. Masterclasses and joint concerts with Evelyn Glennie, Martin Grubinger, Lang Lang, Andras Schiff, Leon Fleisher and Kent Nagano complement his formative artistic influences.


Since 2019, Christian Benning is endorsed by Meinl Cymbals, Meinl Percussion, Meinl Stick&Brush, SchlagZu, AlternateMode and vanLaack and has been a Yamaha Artist since 2023.
